RESUMO:

The library is recognized as an environment with an impact on socialization, education
and inclusion of people, therefore, of relevant social repercussion. This case study
considered accessibility and Assistive Technology (AT) in the University Library (BU)
environment of the Federal University of Cariri (UFCA), as a policy of accessibility and
inclusion of the public People with Disabilities (PwD), these considered to be those with
long term disabilities term of a physical, mental, intellectual or sensory nature and that
use or can use the library space. From the question "How has the UFCA library
responded to the demands of people with some type of disability?", The problem to be
researched arose: the current conditions of accessibility and assistive technology provision
do not meet or partially meet the Brazilian Law of Inclusion (LBI). It aims to verify how
access to and assistance to people with some type of disability occurs at the UFCA library,
through the LBI. Specifically, the study seeks to carry out a survey of the legislation
inherent to accessibility and assistive technology; describe, at least, three access
procedures / assistance from the UFCA library; identify at least two ATs that favor
accessibility in the library and develop an accessible information portal with the theme
"Accessibility and AT in Public University Libraries". The study considered the physical-
structural aspects, such as access to the building (parking, ramps, floors, lighting,
ventilation, ventilation, seating, reception, among others) and aspects related to meeting
conditions and breaking down barriers, such as access to shelves, toilets, visual and tactile
indications (notices, reports, titles, specialized assistance) and assistive technology already
present in the library or to be implemented, such as hardware, software, devices and
accessories that contribute or come to favor the inclusion of PwD or with a limiting
situation in access and use of library resources and spaces. The methodological procedures
reflect an exploratory and descriptive research, with data collection through bibliographic
and documentary research and application of questionnaires to the communities of library
servers and the UFCA accessibility secretariat in a case study with qualitative and
quantitative analysis. The research product consists in the development of a website with a
focus on BU aiming to inform and subsidize public policies regarding accessibility, AT and
inclusion of PwD.
