SUMMARY:

Photography is an important source of information, presenting itself as a historical and cultural document for society and playing a significant role in the preservation and construction of memory. This study has as general objective, the elaboration of a proposal for the construction of the digital repository for the image collection of the Laboratory of Information Science and Memory (LACIM) of the Federal University of Cariri. It has as specific objectives: Identify guidelines for the construction of LACIM's digital repository; to verify the strategies used by LACIM for the digital preservation of its photographic collection and to contribute to the representation of LACIM's photographic memory. The present study works on the concepts of memory, social memory, photography, digital preservation and digital repository. It seeks to identify the strategies used by LACIM for the digital preservation of its photographic collection. It presents as a methodological basis, an exploratory and descriptive research. As for the means, it is a bibliographical research, of a qualitative nature, using the inductive method. It will use the observation method for the data collection mechanism. In this participatory research carried out at LACIM, it was initially possible to observe the LACIM space, have direct contact with those responsible for the laboratory and collect the necessary information for the research. This observation made it possible to identify the technical treatment given to the photographic collection and to verify the techniques adopted for the preservation of this material. The research will contribute to the socio-cultural development of the city of Juazeiro do Norte-CE, enabling, from digital preservation tools and techniques, the safeguarding of the city's history, tradition and culture. Finally, a proposal with guidelines is suggested to support the creation of the digital repository of the LACIM imagery collection, containing information about the Dspace platform, the steps for building the repository, operation, among other references.
