RESUMO:

With the social, cultural and humanistic development of humanity, the organization and dissemination of the information and knowledge produced by it has become increasingly necessary. In this way, the emergence of a place where he could socialize human knowledge accumulated over the centuries, became indispensable. Thus emerged the first libraries, an institution that disseminated and socialized information. But it was only centuries later, during the Renaissance, that libraries became fully engaged in the socialization of knowledge, since they were once relegated to the leading role of bookkeeping and guarding, characterized as a hostile, dark, dusty environment and silent, where the cult of silence prevailed. New concepts and configurations of libraries emerged: public, private, specialized, community, and the latest concept, called mixed libraries, that will be the setting for this research. This study, therefore, aims to identify the contribution and social role of the mixed library of the Federal Institute of Maranhão, as well as the librarian working in this library, in the process of mediation in cultural actions, in order to contribute to the disruption of the social representation of libraries linked to the culture of silence, through a plan of action and action for the aforementioned mixed library. To reach this objective, we will use the exploratory research methodology, providing a familiarization with the phenomenon that will be investigated, allowing a greater understanding and precision of the results. In addition to exploratory research, the study will also be used in action research, in which researchers and participants representing the situation or problem are involved in a cooperative or participatory manner. As an approach, we chose qualitative research as a method, since the central concern of this method is to transform social situations since it has a direct relation between the subjectivity of the subject and the real world. On the other hand, the research field is based on the library of IFMA - Campus Timon, where actions will be developed with the aim of promoting the dynamization of the library, giving life, and stimulating the reader to use the learning space and building new knowledge. In view of this design, the results of the study and the actions carried out are expected to facilitate access to information and promote a taste for reading and culture at the IFMA Timon Campus, transforming the local library into a dynamic and pleasant space. propose to the librarians of the institution that they develop a profile of cultural agent, able to transcend barriers and create conditions for the library to really act as a space for cultural production and creation. In this way, the study will contribute to the rupture of the culture of silence in the library, breaking with the traditional paradigms of the way of access and use of information.
