RESUMO:

This work presents a study on institutional repositories, focusing on document preservation and guarantee of future access. To achieve its objectives, this works discusses and works with the concepts of memory, preservation, free access and scientific information. Directs the study for the documentary collection of the Universidade Federal do Cariri, founded in 2013, and that has an academic community originated from the Universidade Federal do Ceará as well as its intellectual production. Finally, it suggests a preservation policy proposal that precedes the implementation of an institutional repository at the Universidade Federal do Cariri.
