RESUMO:

This work is dedicated to the study of the Pythagorean Theorem. Pythagoras and
his Pythagorean School had great importance in the development of knowledge in several
areas, especially in Mathematics. Although not the rst to perceive the relationship
between the measurements on the sides of a right triangle, the Pythagoreans were the
rst to demonstrate it. We are presented with various demonstrations of this theorem,
as well as of its reciprocal and also of its generalization. We conclude this work with
the suggestion of some activities to be applied in the classroom.
