PAGES: 60
BIG AREA: Ciências da Saúde
AREA: Medicina
SUMMARY:

Diazoxide is frequently cited in laboratory and clinical studies as an effective modulator of intracellular pathways involved in the response to oxidative stress. Proposed mechanisms include the preservation of mitochondrial function, reduction of reactive oxygen species production, and increased cellular antioxidant activity. This study aimed to evaluate and synthesize the available evidence on the therapeutic potential of Diazoxide in reducing oxidative stress through a systematic literature review . A systematic review was conducted in the PubMed electronic database following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, using keywords and descriptors (MeSH): "Diazoxide" AND "sepsis" AND "oxidative stress" OR "ischemia" OR “reperfusion,” for articles in English, Portuguese, or Spanish, published between 2014 and 2024. Eighty-four studies were identified in the PubMed database, with 34 articles excluded after applying language, publication year The works include research analyzing oxidative stress with diazoxide pretreatment and myocardial ischemia in pigs, reduction of spinal cord ischemia damage in mice, cerebral is criteria, and excluding other reviews. Eight articles were included in the final sample, published between 2018 and 2024, from Japan, China, the United States, and Italy. chemia in rats, reversal of oxidative stress in rat skeletal muscle, and a cohort study in neonates with persistent hypoglycemia in intensive care. The systematic review of studies on diazoxide reveals a diverse panorama of its therapeutic applications, highlighting its multifaceted potential in areas such as myocardial protection, neuroprotection, oxidative stress regulation, and the management of complex metabolic conditions.
